About

Patrick J. Hendrickson

Since my early flight training I have always wanted to share the fascinating and unusual views of the ground from the cockpit. My first Aerial Photography resulted from a favor asked of me from a marina master who wanted some views of his new docks. Before my flight lesson, we flew to the marina where I captured several images of the new docks and then proceeded to fly down the river where I took aerial photographs of all of the marinas up and down the Occoquan and Potomac Rivers. I remember the positive feedback when I presented my work to the various marina owners and I was on my way.

Although I have not been formally schooled in photography, experience has lead me to a level of proficiency comparable to that of my schooled peers. Do anything long enough and you will get good at it if the passion is there. Along the way I must give credit to Mr. Herschel G. Connell who took me aside early on, and gave me sage advise and took me to the next level of Professional Aerial Photography. Sadly, Mr. Connell is no longer with us but his spirit still flies with the Pentax 645N camera equipment he was kind enough to sell me before he retired from the business.

The camera equipment changes from year to year but the essence of good Aerial Photography is composing the scene mentally before the flight. I always ask my clients what they would like to see in a picture hanging framed on their wall. The credit for excellent Aerial Photography must be shared to a great extent to the fearless pilots who take me up in every imaginable aircraft that is available. I have flown in towed Para-Gliders, Ultra-Lights, Powered Hang Gliders, Helicopters, Auto-Gyros and all types of fixed wing aircraft. I wish to thank every pilot who ever took me up on Aerial Photography missions and I give them credit for placing me in the right spot to point the camera and push the shutter release.

My expertise knows no geographic range.

Several of my colleagues in the Aerial Photography business have always remarked on the images that are collected serendipitously while on a mission for our clients. These images usually languish in my back up hard drive begging to be seen. I have culled a fraction of my library and pulled a few select images for your pleasure. I intend to repopulate the various sections of this site with new images as they are discovered in the back up drive.
